Biggest Banana In The World

Not many people know that a giant banana tree in the world is in Indonesia, precise in the Afak Mountains, West Papua. The Latin name is Musa ingens or Musa ingens NW Slimmonds. In Banfot Village, Tambrouw Regency, West Papua, call this giant banana by the name apit sepoh. 

Banana stem height reaches 24 meters to 30 meters or the equivalent of 6 to 7 times the banana tree in general. Musa banana tree diameter reaches a size of 95 cm. Some websites even say that tree trunks can get one meter to two meters in diameter. At the same time, the banana fronds have a length of up to 5 meters with a width of about 1 meter. Usually, this banana stalk is used to store game or garden products.

This musa ingens banana has a fruit with a length of up to 20 cm with a 4-6 cm fruit size in diameter. One banana bunch can weigh up to 60 kilograms. Bunch sizes such as bananas are generally about 35-50 cm in diameter, 70-80 cm long. Banana skin color when young and yellowish green when ripe. The fruit also has seeds that are quite a lot bigger or the same as bananas in general.

This giant banana Musa ingens is one of the endemic plants of Papua, which so far has only been found in the Arfak Mountains of West Papua with an altitude of 100 to 200 MDPL. One of the locations of these bananas is in Kwau Village, Mokwam District, Manokwari Regency, which borders the Arfak Mountains Regency. 

The distribution of this species only exists on the island of Papua, including Manokwari (Arfak Mountains Nature Reserve), Kaimana, Wondama Bay, and Fak-Fak (Fak-Fak Tengah Nature Reserve). One of the locations for these giant bananas is in Kwau Village, Mokwam District, Manokwari Regency. 

The location is about an hour's drive by two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles to the Arfak Mountains Regency. In this area, visitors can enjoy the view of this giant banana tree. Because it is very strategic and easy to reach, tourists and professional photographers always stop by Hans Mandacan's location. In the middle of this natural forest in Kwau Village, Hans Mandacan founded an inn called Papua Lorikeet. 

The tourists spend a maximum of two weeks or more depending on the results of their shoot. The Hans Mandacan family lived near the Lorikeet inn, a tin-roofed cottage, and clapboard. Not far from his house, several giant banana trees are a source of food for birds, including intelligent birds.
